Greyfriars is the Oxford friary which adjoins the parish church of SS Edmund and Frideswide. The parish has a very cosmopolitan flavor and attracts people from all over the county. From here the friars engage in parish work, evangelistic outreach, and work among the local homeless.
The friary is a study centre for the Provinces of Ireland and Great Britain. Friars from these Provinces receive teaching in philosophy and theology at Blackfriars in the city centre, which for many of them leads towards ordination as priests. Many other friars come from abroad to learn English at one of the local language schools, while other students come to make use of the University’s academic facilities.
Oxford, being a staging post for many travellers, ensures a constant ministry of Franciscan hospitality, and an interesting mixture of guests. The friars also welcome callers seeking tea and sandwiches or help with pastoral problems.

The Friary Chapel
The Friary Chapel is a small chapel located within the friary adjoining the church. Many of the parish services, particularly the early morning weekday Masses, take place in the chapel. Mass times are published in the weekly Parish Newsletter.
